Sugarloaf Key Flats Open

KEEP POSTED FOR SCHEDULE AND ENTRY FORM

Dates: August 22-23, 2008 (Friday, Saturday) dates may change due to weather
Location:  Sugarloaf Marina, Sugarloaf Key MM 17
Entry Fee: To be determined but not more than $200 per boat (to benefit Anglers and guides charitable party foundation)

Rules:
1. This is a FUN flats fly fishing tournament targeting tarpon, bonefish and permit.  Everyone must have FUN!
2.  Anglers and guides are both eligible to fish and are encouraged to do so.  Point totals are awarded to the boat not the Angler.  Angler's and guides are a team.
3. Minimum 2 , Max 3 people per boat.
4. IGFA rules apply except as pertaining to the construction of leaders.  Any length leader of any # test may be used.
5. Fish must be caught in the mouth.  No snagging or foul hooking.
6. No bait may be used or present onboard the boat.
7. If a rod breaks while fighting a fish it may still be landed and counted.
8. Points are kept as follows:  tarpon & bonefish 100pts,  permit 400pts.  If a team catches a slam (all three in 1 day) 300 additional pts per slam. The team with the most species trumps.
9. 50pts bonus if the team captures a tarpon jump on film (not video).  In order to qualify the tarpon must be completely airborne and reasonably in-focus.  1 bonus per day.
10. All ties settled by bribery... just kidding, last fish caught first.
11. Bonefish and permit must be photographed and released alive.  Boats must provide their own digital camera and USB cable to connect to the director's computer.  Tarpon must only be leader released.  Time of catch must be noted on release score sheet.
12. Teams may leave the dock and begin fishing at 6:30 am.  Lines out 3:30pm.  Boats must return to Sugarloaf Marina and check in by 5:00pm.  100 pts penalty per 5 minutes late.  Special consideration will be determined by rules committee in the event of a breakdown.
13.  No trailering during tournament hours.
14. No fishing after hours.
15.  Fish hooked prior to lines out may be caught.
16. Only flats type boats allowed (must have poling platform).
17. Trolling motors allowed.
18. Fish must be caught in poleable depths.  If you can pole the boat you can fish there.  By my standard that's about 15'. If using a trolling motor you still have to be able to pole in the spot.
19.  No fishing baby tarpon in canals or ditches that are man made; bridges are fine.
20. No fishing permit over wrecks.  Coral heads and channels are fine so long as you can pole.
21. No cell phones or radios allowed to talk with other teams.  If you must make a phone call for business or another reason that's alright.
22.  Any rules violation or loose interpretation will be grounds for a beat-down.  Don't cheat because it sucks!
23.  Boats enter at their own risk and cannot hold Sugarloaf Marina, World Angling or tournament directors or sponsors responsible for any liability whatsoever.
24. Finally, everyone must have FUN!  No bad attitudes allowed.

Prizes:  Highest point totals for all days.  Most overall points.
